Episode 513: Attorney 35 Shiken Shoutai

Another week another participant in the race for cohost, this time it’s Andrew Chan who brings a little European to the show.  He also has quite the introduction for us, one that even has Joseph happily chiming in. Speaking of the host, he’s doing rather well at his new job. Industry news comes in pretty late with topics like getting Otakus to run, and the top 10 anime of spring 2017. Reviews also run pretty long with Joseph jaunting through a magical academy’s story, and Andrew detailing in great depth why a video game about being a lawyer does not transition to an anime very well. Hope you went to the bathroom, because this is quite the lengthy trip.

  1. This candidate did very well in my Opinion. The best so far. Could really sense his enthusiasm for the medium and has a decently broad taste.

  2. Finally a co-host that talks and interacts with the host. The best so far. Although I worry about his taste if he watched Amnesia and did not end up wanting to stab his eyeballs as that was a truly awful anime.

  3. I also like this candidate, a nice juxtapose between you and him Red. I like his interactions though he does stray on tangents a little to much. His review style is a very detailed, and though I might like it it might turn some off, plus it is good to hear how anime is doing across the ocean. Right now I would say it between him and Catam.

  4. Andrew is definitely the best candidate so far. Very friendly and enthusiatic, with a good inter-host chemistry going on already. I personally really appreciated his detail review style and would love so hear more of him on the show! If I had to come up with a complaint it would be that he speaks a bit too fast at some points. I can handle it since I’m a fast speaker myself, but I could imagine that other people might find it annoying.

  5. Please choose Andrew! He’s very well-spoken and conversational. His review was also very fair and detailed.

  6. The doll anime Red was talking about is called Rozen Maiden. I guess I have to call you Joseph now, because if more listeners come along and they read my comment, they’ll be like “Who the hell is Red?”

So Joseph, you can’t watch any anime where women are hurt bad? Then that eliminates a lot of shounen anime, and I would assume that a female gets really hurt at some point in My Hero Academia. You also can’t watch classics like Legend of the Overfiend! 🙂

I don’t know about the game, but the Amnesia anime was a failure. Just the dialogue alone at times was painful. I didn’t watch the whole thing, but one episode was plenty.

Speaking of games, I started playing Ace Attorney because the anime came out, and it’s unfortunate that the anime was so lackluster. The game is way more engaging.

I think that Andrew did a great job. He scores points in every category for me.

    1. I mean killed in brutal ways or raped, physical violence is fine. I mean, I still don’t like it, but most shounen anime will pair off women fights against one another which is fine.

      1. OK, but what about they’re beaten really bad. Like 80s violent anime style? In the 80s, everyone got messed up bad.

Like, let’s say someone lost an arm in an anime, and for the rest of the show, they were still missing a limb
